Early and chatty

40 i ride/4 mi run  A 6 am start time first morning of Daylight Standard Time means only 10 minutes of darkness followed by the empty roads of, “I get to sleep late another hour” mentality. I rode to the end of Gomez road with Lanae, who is tapering for MiamiMan Tri next weekend. We rode next to each other – one to talk about the race and what she will expect and two so she can practice draft free. The ride was great, no wind and cooler temps. I wore regular short shirts and shorts, a bit chilly in the beginning but perfectly comfortable once started. I saw many riders later who had long sleeves and jackets with them, now they were stuck winding the extra clothes around their waist or worse, wearing them all the way and being too warm. We stopped at the Graham Park to eat and drink. My suggestions of teaching Lanae how to “barnyard blow” fell short, she had no interest in that at all. The other “pee while you ride” idea was even more remote in her mind! So she will be stopping mid race if that need arises…

Once back at Loggerhead Park, we ran a brisk 4.2 miles at sub 8 minute pace. Lanae will be so impressive in her first half iron distance race. Once she gets free of the swim and she realizes it did not take her an hour, she will be energized to race the bike and kill on the run course!
