5k – A good showing for a windy Wednesday night.
I came early and met Walter and Nicole who were setting up the UFG tent 66 runners this year from the company, that put us at #5 overall from #10 last year with 42 runners.
I did a brief warmup along Flagler Drive seeing how the wind felt coming back north. I ran up to the new Flagler bridge, too, right before it was time to get in the corrals. I had a “seeded” bracelet so I was allowed to start up front. I think that means more in the Miami and Ft Lauderdale events where thee are more runners.
I started near the front with Dan D’Asasio, who at the gun took off chasing the eventual winner, Jonathan Volpe. He was running good the first mile, but couldn’t hold his pace. My miles decayed along the way, especially coming back from the turnaround into the wind. I did 6:10, 6:18, 6:25 for a 19:27 and 9th Place overall.
Tracey M won the female division in just over 20 minutes. Since she was a part time employee, she didn’t get the credit for that.
