The Hanson’s Intervals at track

6 miles The other end of switching the Hanson’s workouts was the one I figured would be a good fit – running fast on the track.

This is the first week of school, so we were not sure when the security would be opening the gates for us. I arrived at 5:30 am to warmup, prepared to do as many of my 1000m at 5k pace intervals until the gate opened. with a 600m recovery jog after each one x 5 intervals.

I did the 1.5 mile warmup with Maribel and Seth, and got one 1000m + 600m set done and then saw the school gate was open and everyone went inside. I went right into the next set, running counterclockwise like all the runners doing Paul’s workout. Each time I finished, I changed direction. This amounted to two intervals going each way. When I finished, the group had two more of their runs left.

It worked out well for me – all of my 5k pace sprints were faster or comfortably inside the range I sought after. I saw 5:xx paces many times, and only once on the last interval while in a turn did my watch beep as I had slowed to above a 6:20 pace. Easily fixed!
