The new plan

I’m on a roll here. I’ll have 3 marathons wrapped and done in the span of 6 weeks.

I think I may have done something similar in years past, making Palm Beach, Disney and Miami a threesome. All of that was over 12 years ago at least!

This will be different in that I’m putting myself in a better place fitness-wise so I can treat these as “attendance races.” I will not be able to race them, nagging high hamstring and glute issues are healing nicely and i’m not going to risk ripping that progress apart. I will go to the Miami Marathon as a pacer, Ft Lauderdale A1A Marathon as a runner in the field, and Tokyo as my 6th Star in the Abbott World Marathon Majors.

I am excited for this string of events. I haven’t done the Miami race in a few years. It’s been windy, hot and rainy in many of my prior 6 runs in that race. It’s supposed to be warm again for this one, 84 degrees as a high temp. Of course, a “cool front” is coming hours after I finish running – at least I can recover in comfort, right?

For A1A Marathon i Ft Lauderdale, I’ll be entering my 19th consecutive year of this event. I share the “streak” with Anne Carroll, who is also running again. Maybe next year we will both be memorialized with a life-sized bronze statue at the finish line. The finish line is the only piece of the course that has been the same for all years of the event. I will be on the Colavita Team again this year – that’s a fun weekend of dinner beforehand with friends and a nice racing kit to wear on Sunday for the event. Fun ahead in Broward County!

Tokyo is a long flight across the ocean for a run around the world’s most populous city. I am also entered in the “Friendship 5k” the day before – that seemed like a neat thing to do, meet other runners, etc. Some of the other people from our local Palm Beach county group are in that also. I’ll be away for approximately a week, all of my time in Japan will be in Tokyo. I’ll get the “6 Star” medal for finishing that race… just in time for Abbott World Marathon Majors to add Sydney, Australia to the mix of Marathon Majors in 2025.

I’m looking ahead towards a bunch of running, wisely monitored recovery and plenty of travel, pics, food, and experiences. Then a pull back to start with the building blocks of speed, one mile and 5k type training while we still have “less than summer” weather to play with in South Florida.
