The group thing

50 mi/3 mi run  I was looking forward to riding with Suzanne and Suzanne then running afterwards. I figured the 6:30am start would have us ahead of the big Sunday groups I've associated with crashing and injuries. Didn't happen, we left with the group, Austin had no riders for his planned 70 miler so he … Continue reading The group thing

Straight ahead laps

2000 yards. Before heading to the fundraiser, I squirreled away to swim at Okee LA Fitness. I didn't have much time, so I hopped in and swam 40 laps and finished. This is exactly what happens in a race, so I should be used to how all or nothing feels.

Lightning and rain track

4 mi.  I left home in the rain, with a broken iPhone and no good weather app, it was me doing the "old fashioned" thing and just driving over to the Benjamin track for the workout. It stopped raining at PGA Blvd, so that made the warmup and first 2600 meters good. The the rain … Continue reading Lightning and rain track

Getting better

2000 yards. When I watch others swim at what my pace turns out to be, it looks painstakingly slow. For the record, I don't try to go faster, I try to make the swim as least taxing as possible. Warmup Set (400y) 4 x 100 [25 kick/50 swim/25 kick] @ 0:15 rest Main Set (1500y) 7 … Continue reading Getting better

Hills for motivation

8mi. I felt good running this morning although Walter didn't, his inside of one knee was sore from after effects of the long weekend run.   I ran 3 laps with Walter, one with Chelsea and the last two myself. No breeze and 76 degrees, we are back on track for the weather we should … Continue reading Hills for motivation

Tune up at race distance.

29mi. I started with Chiara at 7am at Loggerhead park.  Bathrooms and fountains repaired, it is a good place to start now that the sun rises early around 6:15am. The regular longer ride group left at 6:45, ok for me, I'm low on any base cycling miles, I don't need the benefit of the draft. … Continue reading Tune up at race distance.

24 for San Diego

24mi. I'm not going to San Diego, but Walter is so I ran his long test run with him. Our route began at the store at 4am, we ran straight East on Donald Ross Rd for 3 mi then turned and back. At 5am, Adrienne, Chiara and Suzanne met us. Then we ran to PGA … Continue reading 24 for San Diego

Erica’s lead

5 mi. I came to play some but barely awake, I have been goofed by changes in the traffic lights on the way, barely making it in time for the warmup jog.  I didn't bring a drink, and it got noticeably lighter before we were done running today. 1 mi warmup jog 400m w/200m recovery … Continue reading Erica’s lead

Full 8 feels good

8 mi.  Walter met early and we ran the route uninterrupted. Paul and John Reback came, we spoke at the end of the run on Laura's Olympic trials race in San Diego. Paul was slated to travel there and do the age group part of the race over the weekend. Walter had some extra zip … Continue reading Full 8 feels good

Quiet at the pool

2000 yards.  I felt better in this workout, I thought about Motivation Man and how long I'd really be in the water. .9 mi. isn't that long, espcially on flat waters like the INtracoastal. Warmup Set (400y) [100 easy, 75 easy-moderate, 50 moderate, 25 moderate-hard] @ 0:15 rest between each interval 150 drill   Main … Continue reading Quiet at the pool
